Two firefighters were shot inside a fire station in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to Birmingham police, both firefighters are currently in serious condition and receiving treatment at a hospital.
The motive behind the attack and the identity of the suspect remain unknown.
“At this point in time, we believe this might have been a targeted attack. We don’t know why it would be a targeted attack but that is one of the things we’re trying to determine at this point in time,” Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond said. “It’s very unusual for someone to target one of our fire stations.”
At the time of the incident, approximately three firefighters were present at the station doing routine maintenance.
