In Long Beach’s Alamitos Bay, a tragic boat fire on Saturday resulted in the loss of two lives, and three others sustained injuries, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m., prompting a response from firefighters to the 200 block of Marina Dive, where the boat was docked for fueling.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a 35′ pleasure craft engulfed in flames near the fuel dock, close to Fire Station 21, as described by the Long Beach Fire Department. Witnesses reported hearing a powerful blast as the fire broke out.

The boat was consumed by thick black smoke and intense flames, presenting a challenging situation for the firefighters who rushed to contain the blaze.

Two women in their 60s died, while two men and another woman suffered burn injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Long Beach firefighters, with assistance from the Orange County Fire Authority, effectively extinguished the fire. The boat was completely destroyed in the process.

As authorities begin their investigation, they will examine the charred vessel to ascertain the cause of the devastating fire and shed light on what went wrong.

LBFD Capt. Jake Heflin said, “Initial reports indicated they were in the process of doing some type of refueling operation, or had just completed a fueling operation. That’s obviously all part of the ongoing investigation.”
