Six individuals sustained minor injuries and were subsequently discharged from medical care following the “hard landing” of an American Airlines jetliner at Kahului Airport in Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday, as stated by Federal Aviation Administration and airline officials.
As per an FAA announcement, the American Airlines Airbus A320 “experienced a hard landing” on a runway at approximately 2 p.m. local time. American Airlines, in a separate communication, indicated that those hospitalized comprised one passenger and five flight attendants.
American Airlines stated that Flight 271 from Los Angeles International Airport “encountered an issue upon landing.” The airline further mentioned, “The aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power and customers deplaned normally.”
According to National Weather Service data, Maui experienced partly cloudy and windy conditions with a temperature of around 80 degrees at the time of the incident.
The aircraft accommodated 167 passengers and seven crew members, according to American Airlines. The company reported that it was removed from service and was undergoing inspection, emphasizing, “The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority.”
The FAA is investigating the cause of the incident.
