Bronx, NY (NYPD) — On Friday, April 21, 2023, at approximately 8:36 a.m., a civilian witness called 911 and reported that a subject, later identified as 38-year-old Lorne Gordon was observed at 972 Washington Avenue walking around and holding a pair of scissors in a manner which was concerning. Officers assigned to the 42nd Precinct responded to that location and discovered that Gordon was no longer there. The officers left the location in search of Gordon and broadcast his description to additional officers assisting in locating him.

At approximately 8:55 a.m., as Police Officer Eliezel Penadiaz and Police Officer Frank Voce approached Gordon, they ordered him to drop the scissors in his right hand. Gordon, however, threw a backpack at Police Officer Penadiaz and began to charge at him with the scissors. As a result, Police Officer Penadiaz discharged three shots from his service firearm.

Gordon was taken by ambulance to Lincoln Hospital Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
