On Thursday, President Joe Biden issued a directive to deploy 3,000 reservists to Europe in order to bolster the existing U.S. troops involved in Operation Atlantic Resolve.
The order grants authority to the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security to dispatch active duty units and individual personnel assigned to the Selected Reserve or any member of the Individual Ready Reserve.
According to the order, the number of deployed units should not exceed a total of 3,000 members at any given time, with a maximum of 450 members from the Individual Ready Reserve.
This decision follows President Biden’s recent five-day visit to Europe, during which he traveled through the United Kingdom, Lithuania, and Finland. The purpose of the trip was to showcase the strength of the international coalition in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
