A gunman opened fire Thursday morning at Perry High School in Iowa, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries in a shooting, law enforcement official said.
According to multiple reports, the suspected shooter has succumbed to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The scene has now been declared “secured” by Dallas County, Iowa, officials.
As per a hospital spokesperson, two patients were receiving treatment at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, and their current conditions remain unknown. The active shooting incident was reported at approximately 7:37 a.m. local time, said Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante.
The shooter has been identified as Dylan Butler, WHO 13 reported. Butler apparently posted a selfie on TikTok before the shooting with the caption, “Now we wait.”
Last month, Butler posted a video of himself playing with sticks, pretending to be a gun.
Sheriff Infante said an officer swiftly responded to the school within seven minutes, discovering “multiple gunshot victims.” However, the exact number of victims and the severity of their injuries are currently unclear. The sheriff refrained from providing specific details about the identities of the victims.
Authorities are likely to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
