Bud Light Brewer Lays Off Hundreds of U.S. Workers

Anheuser-Busch, the manufacturer of Bud Light, has confirmed that it will be laying off hundreds of positions within its U.S. corporate staff this week.

The beer maker told the Associated Press that the job cuts would affect less than 2% of its total workforce, which currently stands at 19,000 employees across the nation. Although, the layoffs will not impact warehouse staff, drivers, and other frontline employees, according to the company.

The layoffs come during a challenging period for Anheuser-Busch, marked by a prolonged decline in Bud Light sales since April.

The decline was triggered when conservatives pledged to boycott the brand after the brewer sent a commemorative can to transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Bud Light has also faced criticism from Mulvaney’s supporters and LGBTQ+ rights groups, who believe that the brand did not adequately support her.

In response, Mulvaney expressed feeling abandoned by Bud Light and described enduring “more bullying and transphobia than I could have ever imagined” during the partnership.

Modelo Especial has now eclipsed Bud Light in sales for the first time ever.
