According to authorities, a California business owner lost her life due to a shooting incident following a disagreement concerning an LGBTQ Pride flag that was on display outside her store.

The victim, Laura Ann Carleton, 66, was declared deceased at the scene of the incident on Friday evening, as reported by officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office.

Officials say the altercation began inside Carleton’s apparel store, during which the suspect directed derogatory comments about the flag outside the establishment before proceeding to shoot Carleton.

After the murder, the suspect fled the area. Later, law enforcement managed to track down the suspect, where he was killed in a shootout with officers. As of Sunday, the man’s identity remains unknown.

Carleton, who preferred to go by the name “Lauri,” is survived by her spouse and a total of nine children. She was the proprietor and operator of the Mag.Pi clothing store located in Cedar Glen, an unincorporated community within the San Bernardino Mountains.
