8-Year-Old Chicago Girl Shot In The Head After Getting Ice Cream With Her Dad
An 8-year-old girl from Chicago who was riding a scooter suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, reportedly due to a man’s anger over noise.
The girl, Sarabi Medina, had just gotten ice cream with her dad when she was shot.
“It just didn’t make sense. None of it made sense,” stated a neighbor named Megan Kelley in her account to the Chicago Sun-Times. “Everybody in the community would just tell him they are just kids having fun playing. Just let them be.”
The incident occurred on a Saturday night within Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood. Following the shooting, police responded to the suspect’s apartment building in order to conduct interviews and gather evidence.
Kelley shed light on the events leading up to the tragedy, saying, “Before he shot her, he had said something about them being too loud.”
After the shooting, the gunman was confronted and tackled by Sarabi’s father.
“He ran over there, football-tackled this guy,” recounted community activist Andrew Holmes.
The injured suspect was then transported to a medical facility for treatment before being booked into jail.
Chicago police spokesman Tom Ahern said prosecutors were in the process of reviewing the situation to determine the charges.
