Portage, Indiana – A man found himself trapped inside his crashed vehicle beneath a bridge in Portage, Indiana, following an incident on I-94. Remarkably, two fishermen stumbled upon the scene nearly one week later.

On a Tuesday afternoon, the fishermen were exploring the area for potential fishing spots when they came across the mangled truck beneath the bridge, partially submerged in water. The man, aged in his 20s and originally from out of state but currently residing in the South Bend, Indiana area, is presumed to have been stuck in his truck since Wednesday, December 20.

The pickup was located in Salt Creek. Authorities indicate that the man frequently travels for work. While the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, preliminary findings suggest that while driving on I-94, the man’s truck veered to the right of the highway barrier, became airborne, rolled multiple times to the left, and ended up beneath the bridge. The bridge’s structure concealed the final position of his truck, making it out of sight to those on the interstate above.

The fishermen who discovered the trapped man, a father-in-law and son-in-law, shared their experience at a press conference on Tuesday evening.

Following the discovery, the man was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital for medical attention. As of Tuesday night, he remained alive and conscious; however, officials said that his injuries are severe and potentially life-threatening.
