A grand jury in Ohio has acquitted Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Joshua Sills of charges relating to rape and kidnapping.

The 25-year-old was indicted shortly before this year’s Super Bowl, facing one count of first-degree rape and another count of first-degree kidnapping. These charges were based on a December 5, 2019, incident in Guernsey County, as revealed in court documents.

“I still believe the victim,” said Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. “But in America, criminal convictions require proof beyond a reasonable doubt. The jury did not see it, and I thank them for doing their duty under the law.”

In response to the jury’s decision, the Philadelphia Eagles released a statement confirming Sills’ return to the team’s active roster.

“The NFL has removed him from the commissioner’s exempt list and he will return to the team’s active roster,” the statement says.
