Ex-Student Accused of Killing Univ. of AZ Professor Caught Saying ‘At Least I Fulfilled My Mission’

Recently released video footage reveals a chilling confession from Murad Dervish, the former University of Arizona grad student accused of killing Professor Thomas Meixner. Detectives captured Dervish muttering to himself after they temporarily halted their interrogation regarding the fatal shooting that had taken place hours before.

In the video, Dervish can be heard saying with an apparent sinister smile, “Well, at least I fulfilled my mission.”

Since this confession was made after Dervish was informed of his Miranda rights, it is likely to be used as evidence in court, enabling prosecutors to establish premeditation in the murder of Professor Meixner, which occurred on October 5, 2022, on the U of A campus in Tucson.

Professor Meixner, 52, was the head of the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the university. The incident unfolded in the John W. Harshbarger building, where Dervish had been expelled and barred from visiting.
