PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. – A man has been accused of violently attacking another man with an aluminum bat after being caught with the man’s wife in an Airbnb.

John Dimmig, 33, is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and burglary with battery, according to WPEC. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) responded to the incident around 10 p.m. The alleged attack took place in an apartment within the city of Lake Worth Beach. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the living room of the apartment covered in blood, with bloodstains leading to the bedroom.

Deputies stated in an arrest affidavit that they found a male individual lying on his back, heavily bleeding and applying pressure to his head with a towel. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) arrived at the scene and transported the injured man to a hospital as a trauma alert.

The victim, who identified himself as a CT technician visiting from Arizona, informed deputies that he had gone out for drinks with Dimmig’s wife, who was also his coworker. They later returned to his Airbnb located at 820 South Federal Highway.

According to the arrest report, the victim recounted that he was in bed with Dimmig’s wife when he heard the front door open. As he got up to investigate, Dimmig entered and charged at him with a baseball bat. The victim claimed that he was pinned down and struck at least three times by Dimmig with the bat. When asked what he believed would have happened if Dimmig’s wife had not intervened, the victim stated that he thought Dimmig would have beaten him to death.

“I felt like he was out to kill me,” the victim said.

Deputies found a black aluminum bat, a torn black t-shirt, and a white tank top undershirt that appeared to be stained with blood in the laundry room.

During questioning, Dimmig informed investigators that he had been at home all day, except for a brief trip to a nearby Publix store. He also claimed to have a bat kept in his closet for self-defense or recreational use such as playing baseball or soccer. Dimmig denied ever using the bat to strike anyone.

Law enforcement says they were able to identify Dimmig’s vehicle near the crime scene.

Dimmig was subsequently arrested and taken to Palm Beach County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 17.
