Florida Man Who Shot His Dog In The Face Is Sentenced To 18 Months In Prison

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man was convicted and sentenced for the act of shooting a dog in the face last year. Jamier Lee-Bright, aged 26, received a prison sentence of 18 months, along with an additional 42 months of probation.

He is now registered as an animal abuser, forbidden from having any contact with animals, required to undergo a comprehensive mental health evaluation, and comply with any recommended treatment. Additionally, Lee-Bright had to surrender his firearm to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest of occurred after reports from concerned neighbors who called 911, stating they heard dogs barking, crying, and a gunshot coming from his home. Upon arrival, deputies observed his behavior to be alarming, noticing fresh blood smeared on his face. Further investigation led them to discover a small hole that had been dug in the backyard, as well as Lee-Bright hosing down the patio. Initially denying any knowledge or involvement, Lee-Bright eventually confessed to detectives that he had been awakened by a family member’s screams after the dog had bitten them.

In response, Lee-Bright says he shot the dog in the face. Deputies took the injured dog, named Rocky, to the Flagler Animal Hospital, where he eventually made a full recovery.

Rocky found a new home with Hayden Ore, a crime analyst at the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office’s Real Time Crime Center, who adopted him.
