A group of approximately 15 illegal immigrants reportedly stormed into Bloomingdale’s in Manhattan, attempting to loot a collection of high-end Versace, Dior, and Prada designer sunglasses valued at $5,300, according to the New York Post.

The incident unfolded shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, as the migrants targeted the upscale Midtown retailer, swiftly snatching over a dozen pairs of the expensive sunglasses before attempting to flee, the Post reported.

An alert police officer on paid detail at the store managed to apprehend one of the culprits, identified as 23-year-old Steven Matos. Matos now faces charges of robbery, criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglar tools, and resisting arrest in connection with the incident.

Although some of the stolen glasses were recovered by the police, the majority of the individuals involved successfully evaded capture.

Approximately 70,000 migrants are currently being accommodated and provided for by the city. Some 162,000 migrants \have entered the five boroughs from the U.S. border since the spring of 2022, according to officials.
