The U.S. Coast Guard has announced the recovery of human remains likely from the wreckage of the Titan submersible. The evidence is being brought back to the United States.

All five individuals on board the submersible perished when it imploded last week. The vessel was on a mission to explore the Titanic wreck.

The arrival of the Titan debris at the port in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on Wednesday holds significant importance in the investigation aimed at understanding the cause behind the submersible’s implosion. Distorted fragments of the submersible were unloaded at a pier operated by the Canadian Coast Guard.

In a statement issued late Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the recovery of debris and evidence from the seabed, including what is believed to be human remains.

It wasn’t immediately unclear whose remains were found.
