Jan. 6 Defendant Ray Epps Is Sentenced to Probation

Ray Epps, who faced threats following allegations suggesting that he was a covert government operative responsible for ensnaring other participants in the January 6 riot, was sentenced to probation on Tuesday.

Epps, who was present at the Capitol on January 6, had previously pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge earlier this year. Prosecutors advocated for a six-month prison term for Epps. They argued that Epps’ actions during the January 6 events warranted incarceration, emphasizing that while he did not deserve threats, he did deserve a period of imprisonment.

During his sentencing hearing, Epps informed the judge that Fox News played a role in shaping his belief that the election was stolen. He is currently pursuing legal action against Fox News, alleging that the network and Tucker Carlson propagated the theory portraying him as a federal agent.
