The Secret Service has confirmed that laboratory testing of the substance discovered at the White House on Sunday yielded a positive result for cocaine.
Previously, initial field testing had indicated a positive result for cocaine. However, the substance was subsequently sent for further examination.
According to reports, the substance was found in the vicinity of the ground floor entrance to the West Wing near the area where visitors are required to deposit their cell phones before proceeding.
Earlier reports had described the substance as a white powder enclosed in a small, zip-top bag. It was found during routine rounds conducted by Secret Service personnel.
Upon the discovery on Sunday evening, a brief evacuation took place as a precautionary measure, according to the Secret Service.
President Joe Biden had been at Camp David during the weekend.
Authorities are actively investigating to identify the individual responsible for bringing cocaine into the building.
