Kristin Smart’s Killer Attacked In Prison, Hospitalized In Serious Condition: Lawyer
Paul Flores, the man found guilty of the murder of Kristin Smart, who mysteriously vanished from a California college campus over a quarter-century ago, has been hospitalized due to an assault he endured in state prison, his lawyer said on Wednesday.
Flores, who was recently transferred from North Kern State Prison to Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga in the Central Valley, was taken to an external medical facility on Wednesday, where he is reportedly in a serious condition. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed this development, but the details of the attack remain undisclosed.
Flores’ attorney, Harold Mesick, shared that he was informed by corrections authorities about the assault, although the specific circumstances remain unknown.
“I just pray for his recovery,” said Mesick.
It was only last March that Flores was sentenced to a life term of 25 years in prison for the murder of Kristin Smart. The 19-year-old college student vanished from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo during Memorial Day weekend in 1996, leaving behind a mystery that would span decades.
