NEW YORK (SCDAO) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Shaquela Titley, 31, of Deer Park, pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree, for fatally stabbing her ex-boyfriend’s mother, Marie Mille, 85, and Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, for attempting to kill her ex-boyfriend
“This was a horrific killing of a defenseless elderly woman and family matriarch who didn’t stand a chance to fight against the rage that this defendant unleashed on her,” said District Attorney Tierney. “I thank our prosecutors for their work in securing this conviction and seeking justice for the Mille family.”
According to court documents and the defendant’s admissions during her guilty plea allocution, on the morning of December 23, 2021, Titley fatally stabbed Marie Mille in her Deer Park home. Titley, who had been renting an apartment inside Marie Mille’s home for approximately nine months, was apparently upset because Mille’s son and ex-boyfriend of Titley, was not going to renew Titley’s apartment lease.
Titley’s ex-boyfriend, who was not present at the home when the stabbing took place, returned later that day to find his mother deceased and covered in blood. Titley then attacked him, stabbing him multiple times. The victim ultimately fought his way out of the house and sought refuge in a neighbor’s home. Titley was arrested later that day.
On August 29, 2023, Titley pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Timothy P. Mazzei, to Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class B felony, and Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B violent felony.
Titley is due back in court on October 5, 2023, where she is expected to be sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. She is being represented by Jonathan Manley, Esq.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Frank Schroeder of the Homicide Bureau and John Sciandra of the Major Crime Bureau, with investigative assistance from Detective Patrick Portela from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Homicide Squad.
