ATLANTA – An Atlanta-area mother, Alondra Hobbs, made her first court appearance on Wednesday in connection with the discovery of her 7-year-old daughter’s dead body in an unoccupied apartment located at Hidden Valley Apartments on Misty Waters Drive.

The incident occurred on June 25, 2023, when a concerned resident alerted the police about an odor emanating from a neighboring unit.

According to the reporting party, he entered the apartment to investigate the source of the smell and uncovered the deceased child in the closet. Authorities have determined that the body showed signs of advanced decomposition, indicating that the girl had been deceased for a significant period.

“She looked like a mummy,” the man said.

After a few days of investigation, the young victim was identified as Alivia Hobbs-Jordan. On June 27, law enforcement apprehended Alivia’s mother, Alondra Hobbs, on charges of felony murder and second-degree cruelty.

Hobbs made her appearance before a judge at the DeKalb County court on Wednesday, where she was formally presented with the charges.

Given the gravity of the accusations, the judge ruled that the case must be transferred to the Superior Court. Hobbs will remain in custody until the Superior Court judge assesses whether she should be granted bail.

The DeKalb County Police have not disclosed the official cause of death concerning the young girl.
