Man Dies After Being Shot in Face by Fellow Bird Hunter in Iowa

PANORA, Iowa — A tragic accident unfolded as a 26-year-old hunter, Seth Egelhoff of Chesterfield, Illinois, lost his life when he was accidentally shot in the face by a member of the group he was hunting with.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced the investigation in the Bays Branch Wildlife Area, just north of Panora. Authorities received a 911 call around 1 p.m. on Saturday reporting the incident, and despite efforts to airlift Egelhoff for medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries during transport.

Conservation Officer Jeremy King noted that the shooting appeared to be unintentional, and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
