NEPAL – On Tuesday, near Mount Everest, a helicopter carrying foreign tourists crashed, resulting in the deaths of at least five individuals. One person on board the aircraft was still missing at the time.

The crash occurred in the Lamajura area, and rescue teams had already retrieved the bodies of five victims while continuing their search for the sixth individual, said Basanta Bhattarai, the chief government administrator in the region.

After taking the five tourists on a sightseeing trip to the world’s highest peak, the helicopter was en route back to the capital city of Kathmandu on Tuesday morning. The tourists were reportedly Mexican nationals, while the pilot was Nepalese.

An airport official told the Associated Press the helicopter had to alter its planned flight route due to adverse weather conditions.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
