A 71-year-old woman from Rhode Island lost her life after being struck by a snow plow driver who was operating with a suspended license, according to officials. The North Providence Police Department identified the victim as Maria Vega-Rivera.
According to a news release, authorities were called to an apartment complex on Tuesday around 1:10 p.m. following a report of a pedestrian being hit by a snow plow in the parking lot.
Upon arrival, they discovered Vega-Rivera in critical condition. “She was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital by rescue and later pronounced dead by medical staff,” stated the police.
The plow driver, identified as 30-year-old Lloyd Card, was found to be “operating an unregistered vehicle and driving with a suspended license,” police said. Card has been issued multiple driving violations and is scheduled to appear in court.
Authorities say the incident is currently under investigation.
