Searches Underway Following Avalanche at California Ski Resort Near Lake Tahoe

Olympic Valley, Calif. – The Palisades Tahoe patrol and mountain operations teams are currently engaged in a search and rescue operation following an avalanche that occurred Wednesday. In an official statement from the resort, it was confirmed that the avalanche took place around 9:30 a.m. on the Palisades side above the GS gully area of KT-22.

Cal Fire has mobilized additional resources and personnel to aid in potential rescue efforts, as communicated by the California governor’s office. Representative Kevin Kiley, whose 3rd congressional district covers the resort area, stated that his office is in contact with the Placer County Office of Emergency Services. Kiley expressed gratitude for the efforts of first responders involved in the ongoing search.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office also affirmed their response to reports of an avalanche at the resort. As a precautionary measure, the resort’s website indicates the closure of all lifts at Palisades and Alpine for the remainder of the day.

Details regarding injuries, if any, remain unclear at this point in the investigation.
