HOUSTON, Texas – Miranda Rodriguez, who went missing in August 2017, has been identified as the individual whose burned skeletal remains were discovered in a backyard BBQ pit last July.

Following her disappearance, Rodriguez’s family had been searching for her in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, with their last communication occurring just before the city was flooded.

On July 12, 2022, while cleaning up a backyard at a home on Peach Creek Drive in southeast Houston, a worker stumbled upon a fully burned skeleton in a built-in BBQ pit.

After nearly a year, the identification process concluded, and Houston police informed Rodriguez’s father over the weekend.

The cause and manner of death are listed as “undetermined” by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The investigation remains ongoing.
