PORTLAND – On Saturday, shortly before 5 p.m. in Polk County, a single-engine plane crashed, resulting in the loss of three lives.
The impact of the crash led to the downing of power lines, triggering a power outage and sparking a small brush fire on Hoffman Road. In response to the emergency, both emergency crews and the power company mobilized to the scene. The Independence Police Department reported that efforts were made to de-energize the lines to ensure the safety of the responders and the public.
The identities of the individuals aboard the ill-fated plane were 35-year-old pilot Mohammad Hussain Musawi, passengers Mohammad Bashir Safdari, 35, and Ali Jan Ferdawsi, 29.
The Independence Police Department has initiated an investigation into the incident in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
