‘This Is Not a Warzone’ | DC Acting Police Chief Says 3 Dead, 4 Injured In Mass Shooting Overnight

Gunfire erupted on a Washington, D.C. street Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of at least three people.

According to acting Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith, the shooting was reported around 8 p.m. Eastern time in the Southeast D.C. neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of two men and a woman at the scene, their identities yet to be disclosed.

Additionally, two other injured men were taken to local hospitals, their current conditions unknown.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting, as well as the number of suspects involved, remain unclear. There is no information available regarding a motive.

“Let me be clear: This gun violence has to stop,” Smith said. “It is incredibly frustrating. We know that someone in the community knows what’s happening. This is not a warzone. We want our residents to feel safe.”

The investigation is ongoing.
