FALLBROOK, Calif. — A 1-year-old girl was killed on Monday after being accidentally shot by her 3-year-old sibling, deputies say. The incident occurred when the young children somehow gained access to an unsecured handgun, according to law enforcement officials.
Deputies were notified about the shooting at approximately 7:30 a.m.in the 1100 block of S. Stagecoach Lane.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the 1-year-old girl with a head injury. Officials said the 3-year-old child had obtained possession of an unsecured firearm and inadvertently discharged it. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the specific circumstances and cause of the young girl’s death.
Out of respect for the family and the fact that the victim is a juvenile, authorities have decided not to disclose her name at this time.
